Now That You have compleated the setup of your adapter and if you had issues you called tech support and had them resolved you are able to see wheather or not there are any unsecure wireless networks in the area. OK, so u know what a router is from the previous answers and u can save money on ur phone bill by buying a "MAGICJACK"...it is a device u order that connects to ur computer and ur bill will b $20 US dollars a year.  No joke. I have one and love it.

1) splitting the incoming internet signal to be available to all of the computers independently.

2) makiing it possible for the computers on that network to be mapped and share files and applications.

So a router by itself will not save you any money on your phone bill, as it has nothing to do with it. The only way you'd save money on your phone bill would be if you used a cheaper VOIP phone service such as Vonage, instead of traditional land line phone service. But just the router will not save you money.
