  1. a thing that connects you to the internet

  2. router is a device which is used to connect two different network like wan

router is also use for routing  the data from  sours to destination to its capacity by reading of its mack add or IP add

  3. A router is a piece of computer hardware that controls and directs data from one place to another on the network. To do this the router has several functions

    1. Assigning IP addresses - A router can automatically supply IP addresses to computers on the network the router controls. As each machine asks for an address and the router gives it one and keeps track of who has what

    2. Directing traffic - Now that the router knows who is at what address, it reads the receivers address on each piece of data as it is generated and sends it there

    3. Sharing the Internet - When the router sees that a piece of data needs to go to a computer outside the network it controls, it passes the data to a separate section of the router, that is connected to the Internet. It translates the senders address from the LAN (internal) network address to the Internet address so that multiple machines can share one connection.

Routers can have other high level functions, such as traffic management and shaping, logging, security and wireless. But all routers have the first 3 basic functions
