  1. The antibiotics your OB gives you. Never try to diagnose/treat something like that on your own, ALWAYS talk to your doctor.

  2. The doctor will prescribe you a cream.

  3. Metronidazole or Clindamycin

Both are pretty safe during pregnancy, it's just you should take a an adjusted dose -- less over a longer period of time, I imagine.

Clindamycin is FDA category B during pregnancy, meaning it is pretty darn safe.

Metronidazole is also pregnancy category B.

Category B medications mean that animal-reproduction studies have not developed fetal risk but their are no controlled studies in women, or animal reproductive studies have shown adverse effect that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the first trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters.)

The importance of treating BV early in pregnancy due to the risk of preterm birth, low birth weight, miscarriage, and possible development of pelvic inflammatory disease FAR outweighs any possible side effects or problems that could be caused by either Clindamycin or Metronidazole.

The truth is, you do not have the option to not treat your BV -- you have to.  And no medication is 100% safe during pregnancy, but safety is sometimes nullified by the need to treat.
