What is a salvoconducto? A person was told to get this stamp from their consulate because of an expired visa?

in order to leave the US. Why is that and is it true?

  1. I read your other questions and I think this will help you greatly in explaining a salvoconducto.

    El Salvoconducto es un documento de emergencia, válido para un solo viaje, debe ser utilizado dentro de treinta (30) días de la fecha de su expedición, y será retenido a la llegada del pasajero al Perú (se recomienda que usted mantenga una fotocopia del Salvoconducto obtenido). AL EMITIRSE UN SALVOCONDUCTO, AUTOMATICAMENTE ANULA EL PASAPORTE VIGENTE DEL SOLICITANTE (si lo tuviera).

    They do this to maintain order and it is true.  It needs to be done or when this person wants to return to the United States they might have a problem.

    This is information from the consulate in Miami, Florida but it applies to all.
