  1. if your're talking about an appartment, it's a fixed amount of money the landlord charges in case of damage that they legally have to return to you when you move out, unless there is any damage done to the appartment while you were living there. THen they can deduct the cost of the damage  from the amout returned.

  2. The only time I ever heard of a security deposit is when I go to rent an apartment and the landlord requires a security deposit. that means I have to pay one month rent in advance as a security ( for the landlord ) plus the current month ( to move in).

So like, if it is August and landlord wants 500 rent + security then I need 1000 to move in.

If it is not an apartment your speaking of then it is some amount paid up front just the same.

  3. usually a security deposit is so the landlord has money to make repairs after you move out if they are need.  It is also for if you move out early and without notice they have the continued money.  And you will almost never get it all back when you move out even you follow all of the landlords rules about moving out.  There is always so reason to keep most of the security deposit.  Sorry

  4. Usually it is an extra months rent that is kept in case of damage to the property.  You can get this back if you move and nothing is messed up.
