What is a segrated unit in a federal prison in Chicago and what are they used for?

What happens when a federal immate is put into a segrated unit in a federal prison and why are they put into that type of environment? How long are they kept in that type of environment and is that for only mental patient immates or all immates?

  1. depends on what your crime is, and your general behaviour in prison, and sometime mentality, like a mass murderer might be in Solitary Confinement. but mental people are kept in a whole different place, like a mental institute. And if you pick a lot of fights in prison you might go to SC (no not South Carolina)


  2. A segregated unit is for anyone who would be in danger, or be a danger to others, in the general population.

    It might be someone like a child molester, who'd be in danger, or a psycho killer serving multiple lifes who enjoys stabbing others for fun.

    There are also medically segregated units for infectious diseases, or for the mentally ill.
