  1. It is a caliber that is used for pests and hunting, usually a smaller caliber. Like  .22 lr, .22 mag, .17, .243 etc.

  2. Sport Utility rifle?

    Never heard of one.

    A sporting rifle is for sport shooting;

    Hunting

    Target

    Competition

    Exhibition Shooting

A Battle Rifle is one used in a battle

An Assault rifle is one used during an assault

Now they can all be the same Remington 700 chambered in 308

or they can all be the same Ruger 10/22

It's just how they are used as to what it is classified as.

  3. Shooting sport utilities of course.

  4. like a sport utility vehicle, it is a strong and sturdy tool that can do a ton of things, take a lot of abuse, and be a good all purpose tool

in general a Sport Utility Rifle has a 16-20 inch barrel, a detachable magazine capable of accepting at least 20 round magazines, and uses an intermediate caliber like 223 or 7.62x39

It isn't a dedicated hunting rifle and it may be a bit underpowered for that, but it can definitely take deer in a pinch, or run off attackers.

The most common sport utility rifle is the AR-15, a semiauto version of the same rifle our military uses.

It is basically 'terminology war'  The antis and the news media try and demonize certian types of rifles as 'evil assault rifles ' (even though they are not) and 'assault weapon' even though assault is  behavior, not a firearm type.  Some guys started jokingly refering to AR-15s, Sig550s, Galils, and other semiauto intermeidate cartridge detachable magazine guns as 'EBR' sort for 'evil black rifle' but then that is playing right into the anti-gunners

So someone came up with Sport Utility Rifle as a better description.  It covers fun shooting, competition shooting, surviaval hunting in a pinch, self defense shooting, and all the other things an AR-15 and other similar guns are great at

  5. Never heard of a sport utility rifle.  Sporting rifles yes.  They are non-combat, non-military rifles used for hunting, plinking or target shooting.  The Ruger Mini-14 is an example of a semi-automatic one.

    H

  6. A non-military semi-auto, like the Ruger Mini-14.

Also, a military style gun with the bayonet lugs removed and usually a longer barrel with a low capacity mag.

    As far as uses goes...

Any legal activity such as hunting, target shooting, etc.

    Later,

    Joe

  7. The only Rifle with Sports Utility rifle in its name is the Kel-tec Su-16.  I think it was kel-tec's way of not using the "evil words" "Assault Rifle".  What are they Used For,  Anything, small game, Tactical Comp, target Shooting.  I Don't know how the accuracy is but you could probable use it for some medium to semi long range shooting. Home defense to.  If you get frangible bullets.

I dont want to go into the definition of assault rifle.  But,  uneducated people are scared of the name assualt rifle.  So kel-tech probably didnt want their firearm labled as an assualt rifle.  I dont want to judge and correct me if I am wrong but It sounds like you might be anti-gun.

  8. Sport utility Rifle???  Hmmmm..... I'm not sure those are the best choice of words.....  When I think of a Utility Rifle I think of a handy rifle...... Consider the Ruger Mini 14 or the Ruger mini 30 carbines..... They are great on varmints, target shooting and / or controlling bad social situations.... The ammo is medium power and cheap....
