I'm looking for the best possible am reception in a radio, I noticed the shortwave radios at radio shack were priced higher. Is this because the reception is improved?

  1. You might be iterested in this site.

    http://www.swdxer.co.nr

It talks about antennas and stuff for long distance reception

  2. a shortwave is a cb radio. like police use

but the way you are talking about it, it sounds like you think it is a radio u listen to music on. a shortwave is a powerful walkie-talkie. thats all there is to it. but for reception, it depends on were you are. there are repeaters all around, which recieve the info and send it out again, so it goes farther. the police install them in cities like ny or LA

  3. Regular AM reception will not be improved by using a shortwave radio.

A shortwave radio receives a whole other band of frequencies, which travel much longer distances than standard AM broadcasts.

Shortwave is used to broadcast internationally, not locally.

  4. Shortwaves pick up shortwave frequencies. It's like am/fm/shortwave. That wouldn't make any difference to your am reception.
