  1. Say, "Asimile  needs 'like' or 'as' to COMPARE -  but a metaphor needs nothing more."

It looks like I misspelled the first word, but I wrote it that way to help you remember the AS part....drag A and Simile together when you say it and it will help you remember.

This is a mnemonic device I use. I hope it helps!

  2. For example:

Similes have been widely used in literature for their expressiveness as a figure of speech:

Curley was flopping LIKE a fish on a line.

The very mist on the Essex marshes was  LIKE  a gauzy and radiant fabric.

Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world  LIKE  a Colossus.

  3. A comparison between to unlike objects using "like" or "as"

  4. Similes describe things by saying they are like something else.....  I looked like a frightened mouse. or  I felt as brave as a lion.

  5. It's a lot LIKE a comparison

    Good luck

  6. A comparison between two unrelated objects using the words, "like" or "as".

Ex: He is as sharp AS a tack

Edit: Rhino's response came STRAIGHT from wikipedia..lol

  7. When you compare two unlike things using "like" or "as", commonly used in poetry.
