Great question. Ska bands play a mix of Jamaican music (pre-reggae), Jazz, and R&B. Basically, it sounds a lot like reggae, but has a bass line that is accented by other instruments (like guitar or piano). Some of the band No Doubt's music has a ska sound to it (before Gwen Stefani became a solo artist). Goldfinger also sounds very ska-like.
