What is a skype phone?.. and can i use it with amobile bb device?

Question

if i had a skype ohne and a coeenction to the internet through a usb broad band connection:

1. would this mean i could then use the sypye phnoe to call land lines?

2. can people call me? how? do i get a telephone number?

3. does my computer and usb have to be plugged in all the time for me to receice telephone calls to my skype phone?

4. i need to buy credit for use of a sype phone- Pay as you go???

5. if there is no credit n my spype phone can i still receive calls.

Skype is a program. Its free. All you need is a mic and you're set.

You would register for your username and for people to contact you on skype they would need your skype username. They would also need to download skype also and have a mic.

First of all you need an Ethernet Card [NIC] A USB will not be able to transfer data fast enough to make it work properly. That's with a connected broadband, cable or ADSL.

You will not be able to use it with a mobile broadband because the mobile phone will have to be on all the time and you will soon use your cap. Also the data cannot be transferred fast enough.

1. Yes you can call land lines of people who are not Skype users. But they cannot call you unless they are a Skype user.

2. No. Because you do not have a land line number.

3. Yes, because it comes through your broadband connection.

4. Yes, either using a credit or debit card. You have to be in credit to make calls.

5. Yes from other Skype users. As I said in 3 you do not have a phone number.

If you want a land line number that works through broadband then you will have to use SipGate. However you will have to have a active phone line either from BT or Virgin.

You can download it free, look at their site (just type in Skype, then search).

You need headphones that plug into the audio in/out jacks on your computer.  You can then call skype to skype free, but there is a cost to phone mobiles etc.  I think there is a monthly charge calls to landlines in various parts of the world.
