What is a smudge stick for drawing?

I am trying to get into drawing but I am having a hard time finding the right tools. The tool I am looking for is a smudge stick. It is used to smudge the led from a pencil so as to get better shading.

The problem is that I don't know where to find it and nobody seems to know what it is.

Do I have the name wrong or is it just a really uncommon item?

o ya ! my art teacher gave me some.there these ;little rolled up paper thingys that have a point at the end .

they're also called torchons, tortillons, or paper stumps. you can find it at any art store or at dickblick.com

Also referred to as "blenders", available at most art stores

its basically a little roll of paper. i used it in art class. and i have used it on my own. you can easily make one yourself.
