  1. In the simplest terms socialism is communism light. Socialists believe strong in more government intervention in the markets and more government regulations. Generally they believe that the government, I.E the people should control essential services such as medicare, certain news outlets, water, money production (surprisingly almost no government intervention in this cartel), etc etc. On your political spectrum socialists are quite left of center.

As far as a Green Party, you are correct. The Green Party believes  the primary issue should be environmental protection and care. The idea is that by government spending in green technology and economic boom may also occur. However, the Green Party depending on the country differs on the political spectrum on other issues, though they are usually liberal.

  2. Socialist can mean two different things.  One, there are self-titled "socialist" parties - which can take on a variety of forms.  Two, the economic system with the belief that the means of production should be owned by and reward the people.  Many to all major avenues of production are "government owned."

The Green Party member is committed to environmentalism, non-violence, social justice and grassroots organizing, The Green Party is dedicated to renewing democracy without the support of corporate donors.  Obama has made an interesting nod to the party by refusing, and getting the Democratic party to reject, money from special interests and lobbiests.

An environmentally conscious person is just an environmentally conscious person, regardless of which economic structure, party. or label they believe in.
