What is a sponsor and how to you get a sponsor for the sport surfing?

I am wondering what a sponsor is and how you can get a sponsor. I want a sponsor for surfing. thanx for whoever answers.

Can't really add much to the answer above... He's right... best way to get a sponsor is if you are good at what you do, and they see some potential...

A sponsor is someone that basically pays you to promote their brand.  They give you free gear (sunglasses, cloths, bikinis in your case, shorts, surfboards, etc.) to market.

Most sponsors help in the development of surfers by providing travel, boat trips, etc. to further their surf teams.  Also, they want to get shots for surf magazines so they can promote their brands with their team riders.

As for how to get one.....start surfing!
