What is a sprained ankle?

  1. a sprained ankle is is where if it is sprained it will be swollen and your ankle will be twisted by falling or by some other reason usually if there's   more pain the more severe it is and it will take longer to heal

A sprain is when you tear/pull a muscle after overextending it.  This usually happens on the ankle when you twist your foot although it can happen anywhere.  Once the damage is done the body sends lots of blood to the damaged muscle in an effort to repair it and this causes the painful swelling.  When you put an ice pack on a sprain it causes the swelling to go down as it constricts the blood vessels reducing the swelling.
