A stock is the company that has investors buy into it, they become part owners of that company. Say Dell Computer Corp. Offered 1000,000 shares of the company, for each part of the company you would have a share in it, if you bought all the shares, you could control the company. A share is just what it implies, a share of the company. The stock in general is the name of the company represented by a symbol.
