Most universities have chaired professorships.  These are positions for senior faculty members that are funded by a grant from a private donor.  The person who is appointed to that position is usually referred to the XXXX Professor -- where XXXX is the name of the person who donated the money.

    Someone with the last name of Stuart probably gave a lot of money to some university in order to endow a chaired professorship.
