What is a studio apartment?

what's exactly is a studio apartment? is it like a unit or is it something shared with other tenants?

im referring to australian real estates.

It usually means there is no separate bedroom...a very small apartment with the bedroom and living room being one in the same.

It doesn't have a "bedroom".  The bed is in the living room.  A visitor may sit on your bed like a sofa.  /

pretty much, in most cases, a larger open room that holds all rooms in one (except bathroom is closed off).  A small divider/short wall may separate the bedroom from living room.  Basically, a more inexpensive and convenient living, if you choose to live by yourself or w/ a partner.
