by definition, a sub culture is a group within a larger group which deviates from the norms and mores (those which define the group) of the larger group.  so if the larger group is say, WASPish, then consider all the things which define WASPishness; then look at smaller groups of people within the main culture; for instance, a catholic, an asian, and all the groups you have named would be considered sub cultures.

A sub-culture is any kind of culture that is "below" the surface of the main-stream culture.

Homosexuals are part of the sub culture and so are goths, punks, emos, p**n enthusiasts (addiction is different), drugs (dealer/user), militant groups, cults, and yes even radical elements in the mainstream like some Evangelical Cristians. Rapers and heavy metal fans would consider themselves as part of the sub-culture too.  back in the 40's & 50's Rock & Roll was part of the sub culture. so some things rise to mainstream and others do not.

In other countries rock & roll is still part of the sub culture.
