What is a suburb in Australia?

Im not looking for a place to stay, i just need to know what is the equivalent of a suburb to something American

  1. my belief is that a suburb is just like a town, in sydney the refer to the suburbs as being the surrounding places of the city.

    but a suburb ca also be an area with the same postcode... and in saying this... i guess the surrounding places of the city all have different postcodes.

    and the sky gardern is just a shopping centre.. it in castlereigh street, but it just goes up.

    btw im from aus... about 2hours north of syd

  4. A suburb is a city 'neighbourhood' with it's own postcode/zipcode, I don't think there is an exact US equivalent. Large cities are divided into hundreds of suburbs. Look at a map of Sydney and you will see how it works (www.maps.google.com.au). Australian addresses are listed as street name/number, then suburb, then state, then postcode.
