I have been listed as a successor attorney in fact. What does that mean?

  1. An attorney-in-fact is the person (agent) appointed by someone (the principal) to act for him or her by way of a power of attorney. A successor attorney-in-fact is a back-up who would act as the attorney-in-fact if the first one isn't willing or able to do so.

    If your father signed a power of attorney and named your sister the attorney-in-fact and you the successor attorney-in-fact, you would only be required to act if something happened to your sister.
