What is a suitable length for an English exam essay question?

I'll be writing my first english exam soon. For the essay question what is a suitable length? I want to get the perfect balance between too short and too long

For most essays, it really doesn't matter how long your essay is. Some people have longer essays because they can not articulate their language and end up repeating everything. Then others write shorter essays because they are good at conveying thoughts well. I would say that it should be fairly long, about 2 1/2 written pages (1 page front and back and half of another one side). You need to make sure that you explain everything you write, until you develop up subtlety in your writing, which takes work. Good luck.
