okay so i'm 5' 2" and weight 141 and i really think that i'd be good at a sport that has a lot of kicks, since most of my weight is to my legs. I'm kinda out of shape and planned on taking tennis. but any way i have lots of endurance and some power (in the arms mostly). I lack balance and focus. So what martial art should i take.

  1. muay thai... kicks, knees, punches and elbows... you get it all, its very up tempo and its very practical for self defense

  2. Firstly, many schools should let you take a FREE lesson to see if you like the style or their class. If they have any respect for you they wont charge you. So you might see whats near to you & get a free sample.

Maybe you want to train for fun, or a bit of competitiveness, or fitness?

Kickboxing will be very technical & training can be sorta the 'sweaty gym' type & lot about 'competing' with fellow students...that is, sparring with them. This is great for confidence!

Karate, TaeKwonDo, Kung Fu...can be very traditional & you can try all that flashy Jackie Chan stuff with kicks, punches, cool techniques.

Judo & Aikido are about locks & throws, & are more about enjoying the training than being a fighting machine. Judo is a great start for anyone new to martial arts!

What about something exotic like Capoeira- dancing, fighting & music?

Me...I tried just about everything. I stayed with Ninjutsu. We do kicks, punches, throws, weapons, acrobatics. Everything is in it, & you get the added coolness of telling people that you do Ninja training! :) And its just like playing & having fun.

Look at some videos of all these on youtube, & think more of fun training than what you think your body is built for.

And above all, go & try lots of free lessons, & enjoy your adventures!

  3. With your height & weight.I would suggest Judo not a lot of kicking. But would use your low point of gravity.

  4. Sorry but with your height i wouldn't recommend Tae Kwon Do. Kicks require average/long leg reach for kicks. You need to be tall enough to get your kicks to the chest/head area.

Let the thumbs down begin =D

  5. If you are looking for something with a lot of kicking tae Kwon Do is a good choice, especially for a beginner. This sport oriented art places emphasis on it it's kicking techniques (60-70% of all TKD strikes are kicks, the remainder being punches).

With so much focus on kicking, leg speed, balance, focus and strength are trained for in every class. Do not let this worry you though because a good instruct recognizes that not all beginners start at the same physical ability, but they should at the same time help you reach your maximum potential.

    Have fun with your training!

  6. Tae Kwon Do focuses on kicks, so this style might be good for you. It would also help you develop more balance. If you are worried about your height, you're only 14 and you will probably grown another couple of inches.  I'm partial to TKD, though, because that's what I practice. Perhaps judo would be good for you. That style involves a lot of throws and maybe your shorter height would give you an advantage because of your lower center of gravity.

  7. Japanese Jiu-jitsu I'd suggest..

    Best wishes :)***

  8. congratulations on wanting to join martial arts! well, i would recommend hapikido, which involves a lot of kicking or i would recommend karte!

    It's very fun!!

You have lots power in arms?? try boxing!!

Boxing focus in arm but legs too!!

    You have great legs speed??

You can be good outboxer that use many footworks!!

And you can still punch them then run..!!

BOXING or KICK BOXING is recommended

The gym's it's more easy to find, and the salaries is guarantee if you can go to pro

    GOOD LUCK!!!
