What is a suitable substitute for raw sugar?

I have a few cake recipes that call for raw sugar but cannot find it anywhere, i don't think we sell it in the uk.

What sugar is the best substitute?

  1. I would think granulated sugar would work.  That's what we use in Canada for our cakes and most baking.


  2. Demarara and Raw Cane sugar (black stuff) are readily available in large supermarkets.  Brown sugar is okay too.

  3. Demerara, available in most supermarkets.

  4. cane sugar and granulated sugar both work.
