What is a supercab?

I've been looking for a truck but i don't see the difference between a supercab or an xlt or supercab 4dr or 2dr. So what is the difference...?

Also this is my first car that I'm looking for and I originally wanted a Toyota Tacoma but I haven't been able to find the one I want so I've also been thinking about a Ford Ranger which are easier to find a little cheaper.

Anyone have any opinions on which on I should go for and why?

  1. Supercab is a Ford trademark for an extended cab.  When the extended cabs first came out, in 1973, Dodge had them first.  Dodge was also using a trademark - Club cab.  That has since fallen out of favor.

So - supercab = extended cab (it's not a crew cab).

  2. a super cab is a ford way of saying an extended cab pick up truck.  originally they came out in the 70's (first introduced by Nissan, then Datsun) and alter in Ford and other full size trucks.  originally they were two door, then in the 90's they went to a third door and now have four doors although two of them are 'suicide' doors (reverse opening).

the Ranger is kind of long in the tooth, if i were looking i'd take a good look at the frontier as it has almost the same capabilities as the Tacoma but with more HP and Torque, and can be gotten for a much better price as they don't carry the toyota name.
