  1. There is no sweeper in volleyball, sorry to say.

But there is a sweeper in soccer.

You might be thinking of the SETTER.

The setter in volleyball sets the ball up to the other team mates so they can either hit or spike the ball down to earn there team a point.

Most teams try to use a set-up, which is all 3 hits, to earn there points. And it'd be pretty hard without a good setter and a good hitter.

I hope the semi-helped you, even if thats not what you were looking for!

  2. A sweeper's job is to get all the debris off the court before the game starts.

  3. I have played vball for almost 20 years. I have not once heard of the term "sweeper" in vball.

    I think it's a soccer/field hockey/la crosse term, but I am not sure.

  4. Sorry no sweeper here...p.s. Erin O. does not know what she is talking about, that is called a block or a tip not a whatever she called it. I've been playing volleyball for over 9 years. There are a few basic positions.

    1. Setter-Sets the ball (thats two hands overhead) to the other teammates to spike it (usually only one on the court at a time)

    2. Hitters (spikers) their job is to cover the block of the other hitters, and to help block the other team. These hitters consist of a right, a left and a middle. Depending on the rotation, there can be either 2 or 3 eligible to hit at any time.

    3. Passers/Defensive Specialists-Plays the back court to pass the  ball to the setter. Usually 3 (hitters can double as passers when they are in the back court too!) These people cannot jump in front of the 10 foot line because they are in the backrow.

    4. Libero- Designated passer. This person is the one wearing the different jersey. They cannot serve, and also cannot jump in front of the 10 foot line. They are special because they can go into the game without calling an official substitution.

    5. Serving Specialist-Some teams have designated servers. When its a weak server's turn to serve, they are substituted in and serve, when his or her team loses the serve, she is taken out again.

    I think that's basically it...hope i helped

  5. Well I dont' think there is a certain position called the "sweeper". But I do know that you can "sweep" the ball during a game. The player is at the net, and when the ball hovers (sorry, can't think of a better word) above the net, a player can jump up and push it down to one side using their fingertips. The player has to be careful not to be called for carrying. When done properly, it's an awesome thing to do during a game and its easy to fool the other team. So to answer your question, I don't believe there is a "sweeper" in volleyball.

  6. There is no sweeper in volley ball. A sweeper is a term that is used in soccer, and some other sports, and they "sweep" the ball to the other side of the field. They are sort of like the defenders, keeping the ball away from their side.

  7. no sweeper unless ur a janitor then ur the sweeper for all indoor sports

  8. no  hahahahaahh sweeper buys the beer and gets to the vb course at 5 in the morning and holds on to it and when was the first time you saw a fkn broom on the beach  iii think its the same ....go figure

  9. sweeper = mopper during a volleyball match?? yanno, the ones mopping the floor during the intervals or time out.. hahaha... but there is a player playing the libero position (defense specialist) who's only allowed to play at the back.
