  1. They are asking for a copy of your tax return.  If you filed one, you should have kept a copy - if you didn't you can probably get one from the tax preparer if you had someone do your taxes, from the software if you did them yourself, or from the IRS if you can't get one anywhere else.

  2. Your tax return is the form(s) you fill out to report your income to the IRS.  By providing them to the scholarship folks they can determine your income level, which is a part of the decision in granting the scholarship.  A W-2 is the form an employer completes to inform you and the IRS of the amount of money made during the year.  If you didn't work you would not have received a W-2.

  3. If you worked on a job earning money then you get what is called a W2 which list the amount of money you made the previous year. Or if you work for yourself you can list the amount of money you made the previous year on a form called 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ the three more common tax forms used to file income taxes. The college uses the information to determine what kind of financial assistance you can get in the form of financial aid. Depending on your age, you may or may not need to file one. If you did not work and you live with your parents and are under the age of 24 then they may ask for a copy of your parents tax return. For further information call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040....
