  1. The FIVB is trying to market volleyball for television.  They need certain amounts of commercial breaks.  When one team gets to 8, there is a Technical Time Out.  When a team gets to 16, there is another TTO.  (This is different from beach.  The beach is a total of 7 points on the switch.  This is when one team reaches 8.)  They are at least 1 minute long.  Each team gets 2 shorter times outs that are at least 30 seconds long.  The TTO and time outs can be longer if TV insists.

  3. i was watching tv yesterday and wondered that myself. i think after a certian amount of points (i didnt try counting), the teams automatically  get a timeout. i think its different than a regular timeout where a team has to actually call a timeout.
