  1. If you want to write music for video games, you should take a combination of music classes and computer classes. If you graduate from HS and want to get into a music program with a composition major, you'll have to have some type of classical music backgroud or a VERY strong compositional backgroud (usually colleges won't let you start composition lessons until you've had the first few theory classes). I would recommend taking as much music performance and theory classes as you can in high school, in addition to any computer programming classes your school offers. Once you take those classes, plus the regular math, science, English (stuff like that) with pretty good grades, you should get into college fine.

In college, you'll take all of the regular music classes required of everyone (theory, music history, ensembles, ect), plus some sound design, computer music, sound synthesizing, and maybe some game design classes (if your school offers it). Once you have a strong composition AND computer background, you'll be ready to move to Japan.

  2. What you need is lots of music sense, constant and deep training in different forms of music like carnatic, hindustani ,western, country music etc. Also good knowledge of sound editing softwares will help.A combination of all this would surely help you in the long run.You can also take up university related music courses like B.A (Music) going upto a Phd. in Music or instrumental music.A diploma in Gaming and animation from Image Institute or a reputed institute would help you .

    GoodLuck

  3. Music composition is an art and as an art your level of talent is far more important than any classes you take or grades that you get.  A degree is not required of composers but you'll learn a lot about the art and develop your skill in college.  To be accepted into the music composition concentration of the music major, you're going to need a portfolio of your compositions.

Make sure that your piano/keyboard skills are strong and that you can use the leading music publishing software (Finale or Sibelius) fluently.  For game music you're going to need to be very strong in midi technology as well.

The degree you're looking at is a Bachelor of Music in Composition.  The Bachelor of Arts in Music will not offer near the amount of music theory and composition that you're interested in and will require music performance classes as well.
