What is a timer light on a samsung wide screen tv for?

i am watching tv and a red timer light comes on,,,then the tv goes off,,,can`t seem to figure why,does the timer affect the tv working,,,and how do i disable the timer?

sorry i don't know the answer, but the same thing keeps happening to me.  i've checked all the settings and all say the timer is off.  so far, the tv hasn't actually "cut off" on me.  but that may be simply because i'm not watching it when the timer kicks in.

but when i try to turn it on later, it won't do a thing.  no lights, nothing.

it works at night, but not during the day, which gives me reason to believe it's the timer.  but like i said, all settings say the timer is off.

it would be nice to watch tv in my bedroom, DURING THE DAY.
