  1. The church of Horsemonden County in England was given twenty-four acres of farm land to be farmed with the proceeds going to the maintenance of lights in the church.

    Sir Edward Poynings gave the land;  from whence they obtained their present name of Torchfield.


  2. I am not familiar with that term but could it have to do with burning off the grass/ brush cover to allow for planting, which has been a fairly common practice for many years?
