  1. Meat loaf

  2. Roast a small turkey and serve with stuffing (also called dressing), mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans and cranberry sauce.  Pumpkin pie for dessert.

  3. Steak, Baked Potato or mashed potatoes, and broccoli or a garden salad.

Spaghetti and meatballs and garlic bread(

    Cheeseburger and French Fries

Fried Chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and cornbread.

  4. Hamburger

  5. the most american dish that i can think of is probably any kind of soul food. as african slaves were brought to this country they were given scraps and the unwanted pieces of meat. so fried chicken, mac and cheese, etc.

  6. fast food, fo' sure

    lol

  7. Actually, apples are originally from Kazakhstan.

If you want native american, go for a blueberry pie, or strawberry. Absolutely delicious.

Or if you want something more savory, go with the hamburger. Although it originated from a Hamburg Steak from Germany, the concept of the hamburger on a bun is completely American.

Or you could make some ice cream. Yeah, started with Nero's flavored snow in ancient Greece, moved to Italian gelatto, but American ice cream is completely 100 percent domestic. Nothing else like it.

Also, I like the barbecue idea. Again, theres nothing like American barbecue. Heck, even Americans have their barbecues split up depending on whether you're from New England, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, Louisiana. Every place has their own type of barbecue.

However, rice pudding is a very Spanish or Mexican dish.

  8. Nothing is as American as apple pie....

  9. hate to tell you but all of the food from America came from somewhere else..... were not that original... haha jkjk

although like apple pie or any pie in general is considered American....ish...

but i dunno.... theres nothing original about the food we eat in America it all originates from different countries.... maybe you should consider a different country....

  10. A greasy hamburger.. and chili fries... Or a hotdog instead of a hamburger? Or some bbq ribs?

Heck I dont know, I'm Australian.. but I hear about chili fries alot, and I have no idea what they are.

  11. Finding a quintessential American dish is difficult as American Cuisine is a hodgepodge of all world cuisines.

Probably the dish that has been with us the longest, other than the aforementioned Apple Pie with Cinnamon (that's a combo of traditional British Apple Pie and German Apple Pie) is Fried Chicken.

Fried Chicken is an Americanization of Poulet Frites and Poulet Fricassee from French cooking. It also mixed elements of African cooking as Fried Chicken became a food for slaves since chickens were considered 'cheap' meat along with fish where things like pork and beef were consumed more in the master's house.

So, Fried Chicken has a deep history in American tradition and would be a great showcase for a Quintessential American Dish.

Below is a link to a typical Southern Fried Chicken recipe with tips as to how to cook it properly (because fried chicken isn't as easy as it sounds  to get it right).

  12. Meat loaf, Macaroni and cheese, tossed green salad, and apple pie for dessert.

....or for a truly realistic family dinner, make a McDonald's run.

  13. If you're looking for "All American" food, then you can probably stick with barbecue faire.  Barbecued ribs, apple pie, grilled chicken, rice pudding, and things of that nature :)
