What is a tv tuner?

there is some tv, laptop, and desktop has a tv tuner, what does a tv tuner good for?

The strict definition would be that it's a receiver that picks up television signals over the air, just like  traditional TV set hooked up to an antenna does.

  However, it hopefully also means that you can plug that device with a "tv tuner" into a cable or satellite TV system & receive audio/video programming that way too.

Imagine your cable coming in with all the channels. a tuner selects the one channel you want.

Signals through the air are the same, they all come in to your 'tuner' that selects a narrow band of signal that carries your channel.

In the old days it really was a 'tuner'. It was a dial you turned the same as a radio dial. You would 'tune in' your channel.

Hence the saying "stay tuned!"

its sorta like a remote control that is wireless that you aim directly at the tv, laptop, and desktop. Its good for not getting up if your a potato couch or dont wanna use the keyboard or mouse, and it is portable and compatible and u basically could at least hold it.=]
