What does a tweener mean in terms of tennis? I have heard it has something to do with the type of racket you have. Can someone explain in more depth?

  1. Tweener literally mean between.

I've seen it used in two different contexts.  Regarding racquets, it is between a beginners racquet and an advanced one.

The term is also used for a between the legs shot

  2. There are basically two types of racquets:

The normal sized player's racquets which are a bit heavy. And the player improvement racquets which have oversized heads with a larger sweet spot and light stiff frames.

A tweener racquet is a compromise between the two racquets. It is an in between (hence the name) racquet that is not as heavy as a player's racquet and not as not as oversized as a player improvement (beginner) racquets.

Tweener is also slang for a shot that is hit between the legs after retrieving a lob at the baseline. It was first popularized by Frenchman Yannick Noah: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFrcvKFaG...
