What is a type of chicken that is "a good laying hen" and a really good pet?

I highly recommend getting Australorps. Australorps are very beautiful. They are black and heavyweight breed. They are excellent layers of 300+brown eggs a year.

They are friendly and are very nice fiendly breed. I own them and love em to death

I also have Australorps and they are very calm, friendly birds.  If you start out treating them gently and talking to them nicely when they are young, they will come running when they hear your voice and will be eating out of your hand in no time.  I also have a white rock, a barred rock, a Rhode Island Red and 3 buff Orpingtons.  The Orps are the most timid and flighty.  The barred rock and the RIR are nice and friendly but that little white rock is the sweetest, most curious little bird.  She will walk all over my feet when I go out to give them treats.  I'm really not sure which of my birds lays best but with eight hens, I   get enough eggs that there's no way me and my husband can eat them all.....and we're talking omelettes, quiche, pickled eggs, you name it!

Hi,Warren or hybrid Or otherwise know as "Battery Hens" are friendly pets & normally lay every day,well the ones we had did,now we just have many cross bred,rescue hens that lay constantly!!

Though Rhode Land Red chickens are pretty,good layers,or Black rock chickens are good pets too,you can get all/most of these birds anywhere as we live in the U.K & have Rhode Land Red chickens & i think they are American Chooks!
