I want to help out but sometimes, I feel like some of these opportunities won't help anything, especially since if I go anywhere I'll only be able to contribute 1-3 weeks, just sending money somewhere like Africa, u never know what's going to happen to it, and building houses, these poor countries have no shortage of a labor force, so I'm wondering what I can do because I really want help the world in some way..also the places I most want to go to are India, Africa, and Southeast Asia

  1. Your noble intentions are highly appreciable  and  unscrupulous people would like to exploit your good intentions.  Your contributions should reach the deserving.  There are many meritorious students who are unable to prosecute their studies due to the caste based reservations of the government, you can help such poor students. You can seek the help of some reputed socio religious organisations who are doing excellent services.

  2. Collect pencils for The Pencil Project.

    www.thepencilproject.com

You can do it anywhere and they send pencils around the world to children in need. Education is the only way out of poverty!

  3. What about working in your hometown with an NGO that does international work? Even if you live in a small town, there should be something like the Red Cross or a local chapter of Oxfam or Amnesty International. A big way to help is just by raising awareness within these organizations. Help out on planning committees for events, attend youth conferences (if you're under 30), etc.

  4. Just keep in mind that in helping one person you are making a difference to their world.

"Making a difference starts with 1."

  5. you tell your budget, i will give you the idea!

  6. Your noble intentions are very much respected sir.

There is one glitch. If we voluntarily offer help - most of the time we land in unwanted trouble.

Integrity is questioned. Hard earned money is described as un-accounted black money, etc.

    On the second part -

i)in India most deserving, meritorious poor/middle class students are unable to meet their educational expenses and deprived of quality education (because of wrong govt. policy of reservation system of all castes) - you can try to help them.

ii) Many poor/middle class patients are unable to meet their essential medical/hospital expenses. Pl. you may look into this too.

Here I would like to quote this one incident:

(Noble Gesture: Vijay Times, Bangalore, 10-04-2007, Page 2.)

'Lent collection help make his dream house come true'' - Helping a hapless poor in a very simple way.

father Thomas, member of St. Gregorious Orthodox church in Richmond Town, Bangalore.

They observed a 50 day fast during Lent. They kept tabs of the meals skipped. For every meal foregone, theyput aside a sum of money. The accumulated amount went to help "Ittyesan C C" a community member, to construct his house.

    With regards.

  7. contact some of the social service bodies and ask them that you want to become a volunterr for one of their projects.....like the UN relief people, or the Red Cross, Cancer Research or anything else in your country or local area.....ask them ifthey have a project for a few weeks and youll be happy to donate some money and volunteer too.....this way you could see what developments are really taking place yourself....you could travel places too and most imp...you could make a difference!!! just be enthusiasctic and dont lose hope!
