I'm looking into opening a home-based preschool and wondering what a fair yearly salary would be for a lead preschool teacher? I'm not able to provide benefits, but the teacher would have 4 weeks paid vacation per year, all major holidays off and pt. time help in the classroom. I'm looking for someone with at least 2 years experience with an early childhood education degree. Any suggestions what I should offer? Thanks

  1. According to JSTOR (the most trusted website online), the average salary of teachers and other staff workers in preschool receive an annual pay of about $10,700.

  2. Here is a web site that will give an you an overview:

    http://stats.bls.gov/oes/current/oes2520...

  3. Start small....then offer raises every 3 moths based on parent feedback, regular evaluations (you can find on line) and work from there. When I used to hire teachers...I would ask what their prevous hourly wage was at their last 2 places of employment and give them 25-50 cents more. Work from there but don't give too much too quick. I owned and operated a daycare centre (100 kids, 28 staff)...now I focus on consulting. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me. To answer your question....you can start anywhere from $11-$15 hr. depending on your budget...maybe you can call local daycare centres annd ask what their starting salary is to ensure you're being competitive.
