I am just getting into golf and I wanted to know what clubs and which clubs I need to make a full set of clubs. Make a list too if you can like Drivers: 5,etc... and Irons: 6,2,etc.. Are Nike's good clubs?

  1. This is typical:

    Driver

    3 wood

    5 wood

    Irons: 3,4,5,6,7,8,9

    Sand Wedge

    Pitching Wedge

    Putter

If you're just getting into golf, you might want to consider "hybrid" irons instead of regular long irons (3,4,5); hybrids are easier to swing and have a greater sweet spot (but will give you less spin control).

  2. Driver, three wood, five wood       three, four, five, six, seven eight, nine irons, sand wedge, wedge, putter.

I love a seven wood.  I prefer Pings

  3. While a lot of folks will suggest the following:

    Driver

    3 & 5 wood

    3 - SW for irons

    Putter

I suggest swapping out the 3 & 5 wood for a single 4 wood. The 4 wood will be easier for you to swing, and you won't lose too much distance from the dropped 3 wood (and it'll also save you some cash to boot).

Nike is relatively new to the golf equipment industry. Their woods and hybrids have performed quite well, but the jury is still out on their irons. I personally find them hard on the hands. Try Ping, Callaway and Cleveland. Better yet, swing over to a clubfitter and get yourself spec-ed out.

  5. The starter set is always a good way to ... um ... start. But you can get a screaming deal on some great clubs by looking for demo clubs. These are clubs that have been used by the manufacturer at driving ranges and sets that have been returned for any reason. They are like brand new clubs in most cases. I would take a set like these and have them fitted for you.

My set of clubs is: Driver, 2 wood, 5 wood, 3-9 irons, lob wedge, sand wedge, pitching wedge, and putter. You are allowed 14 clubs in your bag by the rules.

  6. A typical set that is a complete set you can buy usually has a driver, 3-wood, 5-wood and 3-9 irons, pitching wedge and putter.  I would suggest finding a starter set first to see if you like the game at all or renting a set at a local driving range to give you a feel for the swing and whether you want to invest the money in this maddening game.

  7. the whole ping set
