My husband has just been released to light duty after bilateral carpal tunnel surgery. The insurance company is now talking about a settlement. Any idea what the typical settlement for this type of injury would be? Thanks in advance.

  1. I would think that $10 per week would be generous.

  2. I got 5000 for medical expenses and 5000 for pain and suffering.  I got screwed and most people with carpal tunnel do.

  3. It really depends on how bad the injury is and what are the lasting affects.  Are we talking about both wrists or one wrists?  Is there any permanent partial disability (PPD)? If there is a settlement than I think your husband could get about $3,000-$8000 in award money, add PPD value to it and your looking at $8k-$10k depending if it's both or one.  I wouldn't be surprised if he got more.

  4. You don't get pain and suffering with workers comp, so it's going to be future medical costs and future loss of earning capacity after retraining, within the limit of your state laws.  Some states limit it to two years, some states go until you're 65, and some are in between (three, five, ten years).
