What is a vacuum. *sorry guys i just need to clear up some stupid questions and get them defined for me* I'm assuming it means a closed space.....but.....does it imply anything else?

Heres the context.

"which puts forth that the speed of light in vacuum is measured as the same speed to all observers, regardless of their relative motion."

  1. not really, a vacuum implies that there is little matter at a given point and matter rushes toward that origin where matter is a void... it has both positive and negetive gravitational forces (my definition)

  2. A vacuum is a volume of space that does not have any particles in it like no air (gas partcles). So it does not have any medium and its density is 0.

  3. There is no air resistance inside the vacuum. Zero air resistance.

No air gets in, no air gets out.

  4. A vacuum is a volume of space that is essentially empty of matter

  5. A vacuum is a space in which no air molecules are present.

It is basically a space where there is absolutely nothing at all.

  6. A closed tube.  Any closed tube.  E.g. vacuum cleaners or vacuums in space.

  7. a place with no matter

  8. Basically a hoover! Do you know what one of those is?

  9. A device that uses suction to collect dirt from the bottom and sides of a pool. Most common is a vacuum head with wheels that attaches to a pole and is connected to the suction line. Some automatic pool cleaners fall into this category.

  10. Vacuum is an empty space, where significant amount and mass of particles are not present. However, there may be particles, such as neutrinos, passing through it.

In that context, it is saying that light in an empty space has the same velocity for all observers (No matter where they are, the speed of light in a vacuum is ABSOLUTE, it may not seem logical, but experiments have shown that it is true). If it were not an empty space, the speed of light may be affected. Therefore, in that context vacuum still means an empty space that does not affect the light at all.

This may be off-topic, but if you're interested in what that context means, search for:

    - Michelson-Morley experiment

    - Time dilation

    - Length contraction

  11. it is a brilliant cleaning device developed by cecil booth, gets rid of dust, dust bunnies, stray crumbs, and the like
