Please give examples. Like with speed: the average person walks 1.4 m/s.

Thank you! =]

  1. Speed is a scalar, not a vector.

A vector, like velocity, would include a direction.

  2. A vector is a speed and direction of something.

a man walking at 1.4 m/s is a speed... your missing a direction.

a man walking east at 1.4m/s is a vector, written as

    1.4m/s [east]

  3. The example you gave is a scalar not a vector. A vector is  anything with a scalar and a direction. There are many ways of writing a vector:

    1.4 m/s S

    1.4 m/s @ 180 degrees

    1.4 m/s @ S42 degrees W which means its actually at 222 degrees

  4. some vectors are

    velocity

    momentum

    force

    acceleration

  5. Speed is actually a scalar quantity because it only has magnitude in space. A vector quantity must have magnitude and direction in space. An example of a vector quantity is velocity e.g. 5m/s NorthWest

Force is also a vector quantity

This picture shows the weight of a plane as one vector and the force of its engine as another vector.
