  1. The Red Badge of Courage. By Stephen Crane.

Possibly the definitive historical novel about the Civil War.

  2. 1776

I read it for a US history project 3 years ago as a sophomore in high school and considering I dont like history I like it alot

    Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Ellen Foster

    To Kill a Mockingbird

  3. You mean it has to be set in a time of American history right?

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. haha, I didn't like it cause it grossed me out by my friend was in love with it. It's about an American immigrant that works at a meat packing plant-it's American history, don't worry-I read it FOR American history.

Catcher in the Rye, maybe? Yellow Fever-but I read that way in 7th grade so....

Huckleberry Finn; A Separate Peace; The Scarlet Letter (a lot of people hated it-I loved it though) To Kill A Mocking Bird (hated it); Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong by James Loewen; The Great Gatsby (again, some like and some hate this book); Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass: An American Slave Written by Himself

Yeah those are the only ones I can think of, and some I didn't read so iunno about them. I'd go with A Separate Peace, Catcher in the Rye, Great Gatsby, or The Scarlet Letter

  4. Killer Angels by Michael Shaara.  It was about the battle of Gettysburg.  It was then made into a movie called Gettysburg.

  5. A People's History of the United States -Zinn

It's very long, but composed of many shorter essays. It's very, very good!

  6. a tale of two cities.

  7. bury my heart at wounded knee

    the first salute

    killer angels

    1776

    lies my teacher told me

  8. April Morning

  9. Scarlet Letter, Uncle Tom's Cabin, Gone with the Wind (if you can handle that), and Huckleberry Finn are all considered classics concerning American History.

Some people find them dull, some don't - it's really a matter of taste. Most people like Twain's Huckleberry Finn, from what I've heard. I've never personally read it.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzsgerald is usually required reading by the time you hit your junior year in high school, so it might be worth checking that out. I really enjoyed it, despite the fact that it was kind of slow in the beginning.

I've heard good things about David McCullough, who wrote "1776" and a biography on John Adams.

There's also To Kill a Mockingbird - one of the most famous books concerning racism that you'll ever find. And, it was really an endearing story.

There are plenty more that are set in American history, but don't exactly revolve around it, if you get what I mean? I'd recommend checking out your local bookstore or library, and simply asking. They're very helpful with things like this.

    Hope that helps!
