Question:

What is a very loyal dog breed?

I had a Siberian Husky for 9 years. She was an excellent dog, great personality, great with kids, never chewed, never digged, was a house dog. But show her a open gate and she was gone! She was always running away and didnt care who she went to, would not come back when called at all, had to chase her and dive on her. Now she has got out from the backyard we think from the gas man who ignored our sign to knock first and no where to be seen. She is micro-chipped in my name but nothing yet. My question is i want another dog but one of those dogs that can be off the lead and if they get out they sit at the front door until they get let back in the house. Any ideas?

  1. I find German Shepherds very loyal, my family has 2, they are amazing. We had huskeys before too and they tended to run (we live on a farm) or shepherds always stay in the yard, and are VERY smart!!!

  2. A pitbull i own 2 and the are so sweet and loyal. Dont listen to the media they are the best

  3. rottwellers,labradors

  4. well i have a beagle and we have installed an electrical fence around our yard, she learned her boundaries and always stayed in the yard because of her fear of getting shocked. however her collar broke and she hasnt been wearing it for about a year now and she has discovered that she will no longer get shocked but she still stays in our yard even if she is trying to chase the nieghbors cat

also my friend has a golden retriever who is about 5 and no longer requires a leash when they go on walks around our nieghborhood

  5. A mutt is clearly the best breed.

  6. I have a pug, they are small but very loyal to their family.  My pugs are well behaved and trained to sit, lie down, etc.   However, the bread does have a tendency to want to run when the door is opened.    One of my pugs is a rescue pug and he loves to run but always comes back when called.  My other pug has not ever done that, I think it's how you train them.  Good luck, hope you find your Husky soon.

  7. as far as security the German Shepard would have to be the most loyal

  8. My friend has a couple of Saint Bernards and they never leave the yard.  I have a rottie who is always loose and he never leaves the yard but I am out in the country.  Also have a german shepherd that doesn't leave my side (lol)  but what ever breed you choose you can also consider putting up invisible fencing.

  9. There are many breeds that are loyal, you just have to train them while puppies and they will be that way. It takes a lot of work but look up there status on training and a personality that you'd love and choose from there. My dog(the boston terrier) is very loyal, yet wicked hyper, easy to train, but again, very hyper. It's all in the training in my opinion. Good luck!

  10. I have a weimeraner that at first wanted to explore the neighborhood but would come back after a few houses he just liked to look around.  I got him a invisible fence and he learned exactly where his line was and would go out and test it from time to time in hopes of getting to go visit the neighbors but after about a year and a half now I do not even have him wear the collar now because he just enjoys being out in the yard.  When I leave the neighborhood with him he is an excellent off leash through the woods dog he doesn't like to be out of my sight and wants to be right next to me all the time.

A couple of pros about weimeraners

    Great family dog

    next to no shedding

always ready to walk or play

easily crate trained(mine sleeps in his kennel whenever he feel like it even if he's been in it all day)

    a couple of cons

lots of energy that has to be used or they get fat when they get older

cant be outdoor dogs these guys have to be around their family or they feel left out and hate life.

did i mention these guys have alot of energy

  11. hi,

to know what type of dog will suit you, you can use this dog finder match up http://tinyurl.com/6gkcok

the goal here is to help you figure out what type of dog best suits you and your personality. The results of the match up will suggest certain breeds.

    hope this helps

  12. It's not so much a breed as just animal behaviour. My border collie will run fast and hard in the opposite direction, bu they're generally a loyal breed! So it's really hit or miss. Portugese Water Dogs are super dogs, and very family orientated.

  13. boxer

  14. Don't keep a Husky as a house dog.  They're a working breed.  Geesh.

  15. Any kind of poodle, they are very loyal. The only thing is that they normally pick one person they are loyal to. Don't let anyone tease it like they are going to hurt you and upset it. When they do it tends to make the dog over protective and bite. Normally though they are not agressive, go out to potty and come right back, also they get along with cats too.

  16. Chow Chows and Chinese Shar Pei are some of the most loyal breeds out there. They are very reserved and don't like strange people or strange dogs. But they like their family and will do anything to protect them.

  17. Collies are VERY loyal. I rescued one and she's fab.

  18. i had a rotty i never walked him on a lead i didn't need to i always got comments all the time people would say i wish my dog was like that he was fantastic with the my to girls he would watch over them when they played outside and as soon he could not see them he would get up walk to where he could see them again then he would lay down and if i was in the front yard he would do the same to me when i went to bed he would go and he would not get up until i did he new when i was sick or upset he sat by my side every night i could get up tell him to stay and he would not move didnt matter how long i was gone for i love him so much i lost him to cancer 7 years ago i still miss him my girls are in there teens now and they still cry sometimes he still has a great affect on our lives next year im gettig another one i cant wait that is the only big breed i will ever get i love that much and they are so loyal they just want to please you all the time they aer my number one dog

  19. The German Shepard

The German Shepherd Dog has a proud and distinguished heritage. A sound dog, raised well, makes an owner forget that other breeds even exist. If this is the breed for you and your family, you will never have a better friend.

  20. I have a husky also but he always comes back home after a few hours or i call him and he comes back.

Consider a pitbull, very loyal animals, and they ARE NOT nasty, they are easy to train, and very loving and gentle, don't beleive what the media or uneducated people say. Read up about them

  22. Any dog will do what you want if they are trained to do that.  You have to train a dog not to run off when not on leash and to sit at the front door when he wants back inside the house.  You have to train them to do all that stuff.  Running off is a trait of the husky.

  23. Have you ever seen country dogs?  They have acres and acres to roam but sit under the porch.  House dogs cant wait to get out.  It isnt the breed, its keeping her confined that makes her want to run.  Having said that though, as far as breeds go Stacey is right Boxers are darn good dogs.

  24. Golden retriever

  25. get a lab... they are great with kids

Temperament The Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. Some may be reserved with strangers unless very well
