  1. It's the little hole that you see through. That's where you preview your subjects, on a digital SLR, and some digital cameras in general. However,  most lower end digital Cameras don't have a viewfinder, because they hold the camera at arm's length, because of the live view LCD

  2. The viewfinder is the eyepiece where the photographer looks to frame his or her picture. Most compact digicams nowadays don't have one. Instead, they use a live view image on the lcd screen. It really doesn't mean a whole lot, just that framing pictures (especially action shots) will be harder.

  3. Have you  ever tried to take a picture in bright sunlight and you can't see anything on the screen?    Frustrating, isn't it!   When you also have a viewfinder, you will always be able to see to take a picture in any kind of light. Also, with a camera with a viewfinder, you can turn off the display, and save a lot on the batteries.

    I wouldn't have a camera that didn't have a viewfinder.

  4. i think the viewfinder is the little square bit at the very top that you put up to your eye to see what youre taking.

considering most modern cameras have screens on them now half the cameras dont have them anymore.

    mine doesnt anyway XD

  5. The viewfinder is an optical view device that helps you see what the camera is seeing when you can't see with the LCD in bright sun.  Some of these look through the lens and others don't.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD display. Would suggest that you find one that has an optical view finder because the LCD is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera.

Digital cameras require lots of power. If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly.  Batteries may have a full charge, but will be viewed by the camera as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD display is a low steady load, but with extending the lens, focus, optical zoom, and flash charging in the capture mode; it is like starting a car.  With bad contacts, cameras can do strange things like blurring pictures or shutting off with the lens out.
