it's the internal part of the sub or speaker it pretty much what makes it all go down

you might be asking because some subwoofers have dvc (dual voice coils) all that means is that is comes with two sets of connectors so that you can wire them to 2 4 6 or 8 ohms

Most accurately it is more like SPEAKER coils.

Basically there is a actuator that comes in and out with power applied to the voice coil.  Depending on how long the power is applied to the coil, the actuator can come out 1%, 2%, etc.
