  1. Ward clerk/Unit Clerk/Unit secretary...you are the support staff for the clerical end of a hospital or nursing center floor.  Answer phones, make charts, speak with family/visitors... its a busy and sometimes thankless job but it can lead to other things.  I was a unit clerk at a nursing home and after 1 1/2 years of going the extra mile and getting the respect of the unit manager as well as all of the nurses, I got a job as the Office Manager for the entire home!  It was quite the promotion.

I would suggest it as it is an entry-level position and usually can only go upwards...

    Good luck!

  2. I applied for this job once, because it was a state job and I figured it would be a stepping stone. The job I applied to was in a psychiatric hospital. You were basically responsible for the clerical work for the floor-charts, phones, etc. The pay was not bad because it required ONLY a high school diploma and 6 months of work experience (any job), but with state jobs here, there are promotional opportunities, so you can move into other jobs and earn more money.

I also see it as a job that would look great on a resume, should you want to become an LPN or RN or obtain some other job in a hospital or other medical environment. You may also be able to get tuition assistance from your employer to get more schooling.
