I have allergies really bad. To where my skin breaks out in rashes for 6 months of the year. I really am working hard on getting my room to be as allergy free as possible. If you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it. I have an additional question also, do you get allergies so bad that you break out in rashes???

  1. Hi there,

It's actually quite funny I found your question here since creating an allergy free room is all I've been trying to do for the past 3 months. You need to remove all carpets if you have any and get an air purifier. That goes without saying, however more importantly you need to get an Ozone generator for your room. This will actually destroy any mold/chemical or other allergens floating around in there, it purifies like nothing else. I would get itchy skin all night in my room and congestion until I bought one, it's AMAZING!

Besides this though I'd also look into the root cause which is always Candida or Parasites it seems when severe allergies are involved. Check out my bio box to see if you have Candida, at least it can answer some questions for you.

  2. Try to eliminate any excessive fabric, carpets in your room. Clean and easily washable surfaces don't collect to many spores or fibers. Use antidust sprays when dusting. Put a special filter against allergy causing spores on your air conditioning unit. Open your windows regularly (every day) for a little while to exchange the air. Get an extra air cleaning unit with special filter. Overall: cleanliness is best prevention.

Allergies and reactions can be caused by external circumstances and by food stuff, chemicals and drugs (like aspirin). They can cause your body to react in minutes or in hours. You need to consult a specialist who can initiate tests that determine what you would be allergic of..

  3. Jennifer:  If you are serious about an allergy free room, it takes some work but it can be done.  First, move everything out of the room as if you were moving.  Once the room is empty thoroughly wipe down the walls (starting at the top) and then clean the window sills and baseboards.  You should not have any carpet in the room.  The hard surface floor should be mopped.  If you cannot remove the carpet, then clean it with X-Mite powder. This will denature (neutralize) the allergens hiding in there.  Next, get the bed ready to come back in.  Thoroughly wipe down the headboard, footboard,  and bed rails.  Then put an allergy proof zipperd cover on the mattress, the boxspring, and the pillows.  Put the bed back in the room.  Make sure sheets, pillowcases, blankets and covers have either been washed in 140 degree water or washed in a cooler temp with this de-mite laundry stuff.

No stuffed animals and no upholstered furniture should be in the room.  You should have wood or vinyl blinds on the windows.  If you must have curtains, they should be washed weekly.  It is work to set up a dust free room, but it is easy to keep clean once you do it.  That being said, most people can't go to that extreme.  So, the keys are encasing all of your bedding, washing in 140 degree water or using that de-mite stuff, keeping the dust catchers to a minimum, running a good air cleaning machine (I disagree about the ozone generator comment as ozone is a known pollutant and can irritate the respiratory passages and eyes of people with allergies and trigger an asthma attack).  I will give you some links to some good resources.  I have had allergies for 40+  years, but I don't take any medication any more because I control my exposure to dust mites.  It makes all the difference in how you feel!

  4. You should have a laminate, wood or linoleum flooring - not carpet. You should have venetian blinds rather than curtains. You should have a special matress protector on your bed and foam pillows. You should vaccum your matress regularly and wash your pillows regularly too - using soap flakes rather than detergents. Use a washable duvet and wash this regularly too. Any rugs should be washable and washed regularly too (use a bathroom rug)

Avoid air fresheners, perfumes and any chemicals. Use a block of polish and a duster for cleaning rather than aerosols and use bleach or disinfectant for sterilising .

use a deioniser to condition the air.

Keep windows closed when pollen levels are high.

  5. Wow I thought I was the only one, I break out in hives only when it is cold outside. You know you should get tested to see what your allergic to if you already haven't that will give you a pretty good idea on what exactly might be causing it. I know that some types of mold cause your skin to break out and you don't even have to be touching it it can be airborne, also a really good air purifier will help and a good air filter on the ac unit they have some for allergies. I bought a mattress cover that repels things like dust mites and other allergens, you can get them for the pillows also. In the cleaning isle there are the carpet fresheners that help with allergies. I hope I helped and good luck looks like you got a huge project ahead of you.
