What is a way to propose marriage to a best friend?

Two of my friends are married to guys who were their best friends before they started dating. Theirs are some of the happiest marriages I know of.

One guy told his "friend" that she was the best friend he'd ever had, and he had realized that his feelings were deeper than friendship. He asked her if she would be willing to date him and see if she felt the same way. She was surprised, and told him she was hesitant because she didn't want to ruin a good friendship. He explained that if they both married someone else, that would ruin their friendship as well. After giving her some time to think about it, she told him she would be willing to see. After a few dates, he proposed. Now year later they are grandparents and more in love than ever. It can definitely work!

Tell them what you feel in your heart. And maybe something like, you know you have only been friends to this point but you would like the chance to prove you can be much more than that, and you want to make him/her as happy as they make you for the rest of their life, don't forget to mention how much you love them!
