I'm 17 years old and I have never been to a wedding. I'm afraid the first wedding I'll ever go to is my own! What is a wedding like? What takes place at most weddings? Does anyone know any good websites that I can look at to learn more? Thanks and God bless!

  1. Well--let me tell you, weddings are nothing like a Jonas Brothers video.  They are full of sin, debauchery and ninja's.  It's not unusual to see Tom Jones show up and use his ninja thong stealing abilities and then dissapear?  Now of course, Hannah Montana wouldn't need to feel like she's in danger of Tom Jones.

Usually after the group drug use, someone is wed by a wiccan monk and then they cast demon spells on people with goatees and pink shoes.

Other than that....they are pretty boring.

  2. I doubt you will get a simple answer on this, unless it is a courtroom type marriage. :)

I think every wedding has a nightmare story to go along with it.  What we see, and what the bride and groom see, are different.  Most seem to go off pretty well, a stumble or misspoken word, but nothing major.

What happens depends a lot on the faith involved.  Catholics have very set rules for everything.  Some others, well, anything goes.  Some do period weddings, write their own vows, have horse drawn buggies, do western themes (even saw one on horseback), and have heard of one nude service.  Some remind you of a funeral, and others, like Jewish weddings, are more like celebrations of life.

In my wedding, my wife stumbled, the minister lost the ring briefly, I was late on cue, the cake ended up in the wrong church, ah, the joys of marriage. :)  If I had it to do over again, I would keep everything the same! :)

You can look on-line, as there are tons of sites dedicated to this subject, and I have a feeling a lot more with ideas from the g*y community now that some areas are allowing them to marry.  Local churches may have ideas, and there are planners in almost every city or town that I know off.

    Hope this helps...

  3. I have never got married before but I have to tell you, weddings are like the most beautiful, wonderful moment in a day- especially for the bride and groom! My sister told me that it's kind of scary because first of all, when you say your vows, you may mess up and you don't want that. Secondly, you're going to go off on your own and live with the man that you love for the rest of your life. Of course not all is bad because it's the bride and groom's day- everyone focuses on them because they're the one that's getting married.

Also, weddings can take place anywhere you want because it's your wedding- you can have it in a church, at the beach, at Disney if you have money...etc.

    I hope that helps?

  4. My favorite wedding website is www.weddingbee.com. I read it every day and have gotten lots of ideas there for my wedding which is in 2 weeks. You can also just google wedding blogs or look at videos of weddings on youtube.

  5. Okay let's get you a real answer here:

The ceremonies usually go something like what you see in movies or TV.  Bride walks down the isle, minister says a bunch of stuff: vows, maybe some readings by friends and then the bride and groom kiss and walk back down the isle.

After the bride, groom and bridal party usually go for pictures while everyone else heads to the reception and chats.

At the reception, once everyone is seated someone grabs a mic and introduces the wedding party (as they enter the room) then the Bride and groom comes in and they says "and for the first time Mr and Mrs. Smith".  People eat dinner, there's toasts and jokes and then a receieving line.  The bridal party, bride, groom and parents line up and everyone walks past, taking time to congratulate everyone.  Then the first dance.  Then the father daughter dance (and mother son dance if there is one) and then everyone just parties.  At some point there is a cake cutting.  And after that it's just a bunch of dancing and having fun,

OH and there is also the throwing of the bouquet, and the groom pulls the garter off the bride's leg with his teeth and then throws that to the single men.  Usually what happens is whoever catches the garter puts it on the leg of the girl who caught the bouquet.  It's fun.

www.theknot.com has all sorts of stuff to give you an idea of what weddings are like.
