A yacht is a vessel that is larger than an ordinary boat but smaller than a ship. They can have extravagant rooms as well as a formal dining area and a master bedroom.

Full size kitchens,etc. They are very expensive and costly to run,but so awesome. I've been on a couple of them and you have to be a millionaire to own one.

My personal definition of a yacht, is any boat on which you have refrigeration capable of keeping ice cream frozen!

If you can go to your boat at any time and take out a container of ice cream and serve it up still frozen

... You have yacht!

It's a passenger boat. It might be a sailing ship or have a motor, and it might be private, or commercial (as in rented out for cruises). Often the term yacht has connotations of wealth and luxury, but some yachts are pretty simple.

A Yacht is a recreational boat. It designates two rather different classes of watercraft, sailing and power yachts. Yachts are differentiated from working ships mainly by their leisure purpose. It was not until the ascendancy of the steamboat and other types of powerboat that sailing vessels in general came to be perceived as luxury items. However, since the level of luxury on larger yachts has seen an increasing trend, the use of the word yacht to mean any sailing vessel has been diminishing and is more and more limited to racing yachts or cruising yachts.

A yacht (From Dutch Jacht meaning "hunt") was originally defined as a light, fast sailing vessel used to convey important persons.

In later parlance, the definition came to cover a wider range of vessels, propelled by sail, power or both and used for pleasure cruising and/or yacht racing. Often, non-sailing yachts are also referred to as motor yachts, to differentiate them from yachts designed for use with sail power.
